It’s not often I get to write about a new race series, or even an expansion. But I’m excited to share this one. Tough Mudder has announced a new competitive series to their repertoire!

You can read all about the specifics using the link above, so let me just ramble on some of my thoughts, completely off the cuff.

1. Tough Mudder has been on the cutting edge of the OCR business since its inception. This expansion into the competitive series is just the next logical step.
2. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that they’ve expanded into a competitive series. World’s Toughest Mudder has been one of the premier OCR events in the world, and it makes sense that they create smaller steps leading up to it.
3. This goes along with the rest of the incredible expansions that Tough Mudder has added in recent years. It all started with the introduction of Tough Mudder Half, a 5-mile version of their race with several signature obstacles (minus ice and electricity). Most recently, they added a 5K version. The competitive series just fits right in.

Tough Mudder is on my list for events that I have to do next. Is Tough Mudder competition in the ranks for down the road? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see…
